Day 3 on ship: Volume adjusted

June 10th day 3 on ship
1900: Warning: the following images may be a little uncensored. We found out this morning that for some unknown reason no pediatric patients showed up for screening. That meant we were ALL volume adjusted (called off) for tonight's shift. I kind of feel bad for being so whiny before. At this rate they won't get much work out of me on this trip. We decided to make the best of it and take Liberty again because sitting on the beach is a lot nicer than sitting in a lounge. I'm still a little singed from yesterday despite the sunscreen, so I opted to nap in the shade of a tree, and chat with Debbie and Kathy. What amazing women. I think getting to know and learn from these experienced nurses might be the biggest take home of all on this trip. They also are up to anything and are a lot of fun! For a while we watched a group of naked little boys playing wildly for hours in the sea. They were excited to be in a picture, but wouldn't stay still long enough to get one, haha.
Garrett made me add edits so I wouldn't be put in prison for child porn felony.

They played very rough with each other and I didn't see a single one cry or even walk away when pushed over. I can't help but feeling like this resilience is something that our American children are missing badly. After the beach we got all adventurous and tried some different Asian food from a place that advertises a waffle with chicken among other really odd things on the front of the store. They gave us a little cup of the hottest stuff I have ever seen to put in our soup. I put in hardly an eighth teaspoon in my whole soup and my lips were on fire. Jordan put in a whole fourth teaspoon and here eyes were watering for the rest of the meal. It was hilarious.
Debbie put in multiple spoonfuls and downed it without batting an eye. Woman of steel. We also met our friend Kena who makes beautiful woven purses and I sent her on a mission to custom make me a perfect passport bag since my passport is getting a little frayed from overuse. I'll go back in a few days and buy it.
0600 I decided to try out the morning yoga in the chaplains office today. Jordan was going to come but somehow missed. Not sure what happened. After I went out on the deck to watch the sunrise. I wish I could get in the habit of waking this early at home. Mornings are wonderful things. The ship food is finally catching up with me this morning, although my insides really haven't ever been particularly agreeable since day 1 in Timor. It kind of scary since there's basically 1 bathroom on the ship and I could end up a 10 minute walk and 8 floors away at any given time. There is no elevator use allowed, and since this used to be a tanker all the areas are compartmentalized, which means often I have to climb up 4 or 5 flights of stairs, walk to the other side of the ship, and then down 4 flights again to get where I need to go. It's all very confusing and inconvenient, but it does make for a good gluteal workout. After Yoga I thought I'd fulfill my lifelong dream of working out with the Marines, but when I went to their gym there wasn't a single person there! Not for the whole hour! Dream=crushed. Haha maybe I'll need to go to the boot camp class to get the experience. Or maybe I should save myself the embarrassment of exposing my inadequate fitness. Either way I need to get my discipline back somehow because this unlimited food and time thing is becoming a problem.
