Well as usual my overoptimistic self jumped into a project way over my head. Good thing Garrett is here to save me from myself. I do hold on to the belief that if he wasn't around I would figure it out eventually. It would just take way wayyy longer to finish. I did get as far as setting up the table saw and watched a YouTube video on how to use it. Garrett said he thought it was cute. But really I am driven enough to do it, but having him around thinking through it all saves me from the million expensive mistakes I'm sure I would have made. Planning complicated trim work is so much more tedious and surprisingly complicated than I ever thought. This long awaited bookshelf I decided I wanted before we even bought the house is finally happening, and I'm so happy with it. Once we finish and put the textile frames on the wall I will be able to publish my before and after pics for the living room! We're kicking back into overdrive with these projects cause I want to have the house mostly out of the way before we take on the baby. After this Garrett will start with building my oversize frames and the entertainment center and coffee table for the family room. Garrett will be a professional carpenter by the end of this, and I really hope I can be involved enough to learn a few things myself.
Today is only the second time this year I've sat alone, front and center, at a play. Lets hope I don't bawl like a fool like I did last time. Earlier this summer I went to a community play, West Side Story, and cried through the entire thing-- even the happy parts. I was newly pregnant, hyper-emotional, and I hadn't seen that movie since I loved it in my childhood so it turned out to be a super nostalgic experience for me. I really was blown away with the community talent, and the time and skill that went into it. I went alone because Garrett is such a hard worker and had something to do that night. Tonight he's at a fireside with the young men. One of my young women is performing, and I can justify playing hooky and being here-- besides the fact that Joseph is one of my favorite plays ever.

So Garrett now owns a Jesus tool.
I think that makes him an official carpenter first class. He actually bought it cause we needed it. Turns out wood isn't really cut perfectly to size when bought at Home Depot .. the things we learn every day. He's all determined to finish his part tonight (my part being the painting). If he does I'll be super impressed cause it's 830 pm and he's been to Home Depot twice in the last 2 hours.

The cornices from heck
We had to take the cornice off like 4 different times because no matter how much we measured it, it was always way off. After we both lost our tempers we finally got it up and it looks beautimus. Trim work is a lot like painting-- 95% of the sweat and tears is in the prep work. Once all the measuring and re-measuring and cutting and re-cutting is done,
then we just get out the nail gun and it's all quick and pretty. Oh my what a huge relief that Garrett's part is done!! The trim is all on at last! I now need to caulk and fill everything, and then paint it. It seems easy enough but we all know how painting is. I just painted the upstairs bathroom today so maybe I can take a few days break.

Later in November...
We finished it! I did some caulking, wood filling, and then a coat of paint, and now the finished product makes me so happy every time I see it. Its the perfect Christmas present from Garrett. Now I just need to decide the shelf spacing and fill it with all the things that bring me joy.
